What is the SOMA Alumni Membership?
The SOMA Alumni Membership is a division of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA), a national organization of students pursing a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree. SOMA Alumni Membership is an avenue for former SOMA members to become actively involved in mentoring medical and pre-med students, in addition to the opportunity to participate in SOMA events. Membership is a one-time fee of $25!
The goal of the SOMA Alumni Membership is to allow residents, fellows, & beyond to stay connected to the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA), even after graduation. Above all else, the membership aims to support aspiring Osteopathic physicians at all levels of education through mentoring opportunities. There are also opportunities to stay involved in advocacy, in addition to attending SOMA conferences, host SOMA lectures, and benefit from a variety of SOMA Alumni Member discounts! What is SOMA?
The Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) was founded in 1970 as a nonprofit association with the objectives to improve the quality of healthcare delivery, to educate osteopathic medical students, to espouse the ideals of osteopathic medicine, and to establish lines of communication among health care professionals.
With over 15,000 members, SOMA is the largest osteopathic medical student organization in the world. In addition to providing valuable programs and benefits, SOMA plays an active role in portraying the student voice to the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and larger medical community in order to help shape the future of our chosen career field. Volunteer osteopathic medical students run both local and National SOMA organizations.

By being involved in the SOMA Alumni Membership, you also can serve as a mentor for medical students involved in SOMA, as well as pre-medical students involved in Pre-SOMA. A searchable database with your contact information will be provided to members of both SOMA and Pre-SOMA for networking purposes. National SOMA hopes that this allows for further involvement of our SOMA Alumni in the lives of hard-working medical students, in addition to allowing them to feel a sense of comfort in having these professional connections.
