On September 12th, The Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) chapter at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine at A.T. Still University welcomed the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) to campus for a presentation to their members about the legislative process as it pertains to medicine. MAOPS President Dr. Jeff Davis, DO and Executive Director Brian Bowles discussed hot legislative issues currently under discussion in the State of Missouri, such as the Assistant Physician, Medical Marijuana and Midwifery among others. During the presentation, Dr. Davis and Mr. Bowles also discussed how students can get involved in MAOPS, the weight of the student voice in advocacy efforts, and importance of attending conferences and participating in organized medicine.
The presentation was well recieved by the SOMA members, many of whom voiced interest in joing MAOPS in it's efforts and further increasing their participation in organized osteopathic medicine and the future of our profession.
