Each year in August, the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) sends a contingency of students, faculty, and alumni to South America for their annual Peru Global Outreach Program. This past year 80 participants treated 2,334 patients in all specialties from pediatrics, family medicine, and internal medicine to radiology, neurosurgery, ENT, and everything between. The Santa Rosa clinic, where the mission happened, is located in the city of Iquitos and serves residents living in three remote villages along the Amazon River.
MSUCOM SOMA sees the value in this endeavor and on August 28th they hosted their first annual Charity Golf Outing to support the Peru Global Outreach Program. The outing brought together students, physicians, and members of the Michigan State University community for a wonderful day of golf and networking at Hawk Hollow Golf Course in Bath, Michigan. Fifty five participants spent the day on the links in support of this amazing medical mission. The proceeds raised from the outing will be used to help purchase medical supplies for the program to benefit medically underserved populations in Peru.
